DELE B2
The DELE B2 (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera, level B2) is an official certificate that proves you have an upper-intermediate level of Spanish. It is issued by Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education and is recognized worldwide.
What does B2 level mean?
According to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), B2 means you can:
- Understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics
- Interact with native speakers with enough fluency for regular communication
- Produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects
- Explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving advantages and disadvantages
Who issues the DELE B2?
The DELE diplomas are issued by Instituto Cervantes, the official institution created by the Spanish government to promote the Spanish language worldwide. The exams are designed by the University of Salamanca and administered at authorized exam centers in over 100 countries.
Does it expire?
No. Unlike many language certificates (IELTS, TOEFL), the DELE never expires. Once you pass, the diploma is valid for life. This makes it a one-time investment in your future.

Exam structure at a glance
The DELE B2 consists of 4 tests grouped into 2 scoring groups:
- Group 1: Reading (70 min, 4 tasks) + Writing (80 min, 2 tasks)
- Group 2: Listening (40 min, 5 tasks) + Speaking (20 min + 20 min prep, 3 tasks)
You need at least 60/100 total with a minimum of 30/50 in each group to pass. The result is simply PASS or FAIL.
How to prepare
