The oral expression and interaction test of the DELE B2 lasts 20 minutes (plus 20 minutes of prior preparation). It consists of 3 tasks and is conducted in front of two examiners: one who converses with you and another who evaluates. This test is part of Group 2 along with listening comprehension.

The 20 minutes of preparation

Before entering the exam room, you are given 20 minutes to prepare tasks 1 and 2. You will receive the sheets with the stimuli and can take notes (which you can bring with you to the exam). Task 3 is not prepared in advance.

How to make the most of the preparation

• Spend 10 minutes on Task 1 and 10 on Task 2
• Write down key words and connectors, NOT complete sentences
• Prepare a structure: introduction, 2-3 arguments, conclusion
• Think of possible questions from the examiner and how you would respond

Task 1: Evaluate proposals (6-7 minutes)

You are presented with a topic (for example, "measures to reduce youth unemployment") with several proposals. You must evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each, choose the one you consider best, and justify your choice. Afterwards, the examiner will ask you questions.

Strategy

• Do not limit yourself to describing the proposals — evaluate and compare them
• Use opinion expressions: "I consider that", "from my point of view", "in my opinion"
• Structure: present the topic → analyze 2-3 proposals → choose one → justify
• Be prepared to defend your position when the examiner questions you

Task 2: Describe an imagined situation (5-6 minutes)

You are given a photograph and must describe an imagined situation related to it. It is not about literally describing the photo, but about creating a narrative context. Afterwards, you will converse with the examiner about the topic.

Strategy

• Use the conditional and the subjunctive: "it could be that...", "it seems that they were..."
• Describe the context: who they are, where they are, what has happened before, what will happen next
• Relate the image to a broader topic for the subsequent conversation
• Do not stay in the physical description — speculate about emotions, motivations

Task 3: Give opinions on data (4-5 minutes)

You are presented with a survey, graph, or statistical data. You must give your opinion on the results and discuss with the examiner. This task is NOT prepared in advance.

Strategy

• Briefly describe the most relevant data (not all)
• Give your interpretation: "this could be due to...", "I am surprised that..."
• Relate the data to your experience or the reality of your country
• Keep the conversation flowing — do not stay silent thinking

Useful phrases for the entire test

• To introduce: "I would like to start by talking about...", "In relation to this topic..."
• To give an opinion: "In my opinion...", "Personally, I believe that...", "I am convinced that..."
• To contrast: "On one hand... on the other...", "While it is true that..., also..."
• To conclude: "In summary...", "To finish, I would like to highlight that..."
• To buy time: "It's an interesting question...", "Let me think for a moment..."

Tips for the exam day

• Speak naturally — do not recite a memorized text
• Look at the examiner who is conversing with you, not the one who is evaluating
• If you do not understand a question, ask them to repeat it (it does not penalize)
• Maintain a steady pace — neither too fast nor with long pauses
• Show variety: use different verb tenses, connectors, and vocabulary
