Many candidates for the DELE B2 make the same mistakes over and over again. Knowing them in advance allows you to avoid them and gain valuable points. Here are the most frequent ones in each test.

Reading comprehension mistakes

• Choosing the first option that "sounds good": Read ALL the options before deciding. Distractors are designed to seem correct.
• Not managing time: You have 70 minutes for 4 tasks. If you get stuck on a question, mark it and move on. Come back at the end.
• Looking for exact words from the text in the options: Correct answers often use synonyms or paraphrases, not the same words.
• Not reading the instructions: Each task has a different format. Make sure you understand what is being asked before starting.

Listening comprehension mistakes

• Trying to understand every word: Look for the general idea and the specific information requested. You don’t need to understand 100%.
• Not reading the questions beforehand: The seconds of pause between tasks are for reading the next questions. Use them.
• Getting stuck after missing an answer: If you miss one, move immediately to the next. You can't rewind.
• Changing answers on the second listen without a clear reason: Your first intuition is usually correct. Only change if you are sure.

Writing expression mistakes

• Not respecting the word count: 150-180 words is the range. Less than 150 penalizes; more than 200 can also penalize.
• Mixing tú and usted: Decide on the register at the beginning and stick to it. In formal texts, use "usted". In blogs or forums, "tú".
• Not using the input from Task 1: You must explicitly reference the data, graph, or text provided.
• Repetitive vocabulary: Use synonyms. Instead of repeating "important", alternate with "relevant", "fundamental", "significant".
• Not planning before writing: Spend 5 minutes making an outline. A well-structured text always scores higher.

Speaking expression mistakes

• Memorizing answers: Examiners detect this immediately. Prepare ideas and vocabulary, not complete texts.
• Answers that are too short: "Yes, I agree" is not enough. Develop your answers with arguments and examples.
• Not interacting with the examiner: It’s a conversation, not a monologue. Respond to their questions and show interest.
• Staying silent: If you need to think, use fillers: "Well, that’s an interesting question...", "Let me think..."
• Speaking too fast: Fluency is not speed. Speak at a natural pace with logical pauses between ideas.

General strategy mistakes

• Not practicing in advance: The DELE B2 is a timed exam. If you don’t practice with a clock, you will run out of time on exam day.
• Preparing only the "easy" tests: You need 30/50 in EACH group. You cannot compensate for a bad group with another.
• Not knowing the format: Each task has specific rules. Practice with official models so there are no surprises.
• Leaving answers blank: There is no penalty for incorrect answers. Always mark something.
