Listening Comprehension DELE B2: task by task guide

The listening comprehension test of the DELE B2 lasts 40 minutes and contains 5 tasks with a total of 30 items. It generates the most stress because you cannot control the pace: the audio progresses and you must follow it. With the right strategies, you will significantly improve your score.

General Structure

The 5 tasks cover different listening formats: short conversations, long dialogues, interviews, monologues, and lectures. Each audio is played twice, giving you a second chance to confirm your answers.

Task 1: Short Conversations

You will hear 6 short conversations and must answer a multiple-choice question (3 options) for each one.

Strategy

  • Read the questions and options BEFORE the audio starts
  • Underline the keywords in each option
  • Be careful with distractors: all options are often mentioned, but only one answers the question
  • In the first listen, try to eliminate incorrect options

Task 2: Long Conversation

An extensive dialogue (interview, debate, conversation) with 6 multiple-choice questions.

Strategy

  • The questions follow the order of the audio — do not skip ahead
  • Mark your provisional answer on the first listen
  • Use the second listen to confirm the doubtful ones
  • Pay attention to opinion expressions: "I think that", "in my opinion", "the thing is that"

Task 3: Interview with Two People

You will hear an interview with two people and must identify who expresses each of the 6 ideas presented.

Strategy

  • Identify the voices from the beginning — note a distinctive feature of each
  • The ideas may be paraphrased — look for the meaning, not the exact words
  • If both people talk about the same topic, pay attention to nuances of opinion
  • There is a trick option: "neither of them" or a statement that does not correspond to anyone

Task 4: Short Monologues

6 short monologues (ads, messages, news) that you must match with 6 statements from a list of 9.

Strategy

  • Read all the statements before starting — there are 3 extra that act as distractors
  • Identify the main theme of each monologue, do not get lost in details
  • The statements use synonyms from the audio — train your paraphrasing vocabulary
  • If you hesitate between two options, wait for the second listen

Task 5: Lecture or Presentation

A long monologue (lecture, talk, academic presentation) with 6 multiple-choice questions.

Strategy

  • This is the most difficult task — the vocabulary is more formal and specialized
  • Take brief notes during the first listen (keywords, not complete sentences)
  • The questions follow the order of the speech
  • Pay special attention to connectors: "however", "on the other hand", "in conclusion"
  • The speaker's tone may indicate the answer (irony, emphasis, doubt)

General Tips

  • Practice with real audio: podcasts, news, interviews in Spanish at normal speed
  • Practice active listening: not just hearing, but looking for specific information
  • Expand your vocabulary: many answers depend on recognizing synonyms and paraphrases
  • Don't get stuck: if you miss an answer, move on to the next one immediately
  • Manage your time between tasks: use the pause seconds to read the next task
